I bought this amp at Guitar Center in Miami, FL for $1099+tax. After checking out some Marshalls, Fenders, and Line 6's, the distortion on the Mesa Boogie was so much better that I decided to pay twice what I was planning on spending just to have that sound. So I got the Nomad 45watt 2x12 because it was the cheapest of the Mesa Boogies that they had in stock. I probably would've bought a 1x12 instead simply for portability, but they didn't have any in stock.
The three separate channels with separate controls were an absolute must. I use a lighter distortion sound for a lot of my rhythm, but I like a higher gain for more sustain during solos. The tone of this amp is SUPER WARM and sweet. I can't get over it. The distortion sounds very natural, and on the clean channel it has that punch when you play a little harder. A very full and rich sound. Sound blew away all of the other amps I tried. I liked the clean channel on the Fenders, but not the distortions. With the Marshalls it was the opposite. The Mesa had the best of both worlds. It sounds great at low or high volumes.
The buttons on the footswitch are too close together, so I sometimes push two buttons when I'm trying to push one which can cause problems during live shows. Also, I can't hear the reverb on the lead channel and the reverb is very low on the mid-gain channel even when cranked up all the way. I called Mesa about this and they said it was normal. So I just use the reverb on my effects processor.
Construction seems pretty solid, although, after I'd had it for a few weeks, I was looking in the back of the amp and noticed that one of the metal boxes had rust all over it. I don't know much about how amps are made, so I don't know which component of the amp this is. The amp is HEAVY. I've almost given myself a hernia carrying up stairways for gigs. I love the way the amp looks
I love the amp. I couldn't ask for a better sound. I might prefer a 1x12 because it would be easier to carry, but I haven't heard one yet either.
